Construction of The Dragway @ Lowe's Motor Speedway Progressing Rapidly

CONCORD, N.C. (March 5, 2008) - While not quite approaching 330 mph like an NHRA Top Fuel dragster, construction of The Dragway @ Lowe's Motor Speedway is progressing at a high rate of speed.

Exactly one month after ground was officially broken for the state-of-the-art facility, grandstands are going up, construction of the starting-line tower is underway and the path for the quarter-mile of concrete and asphalt is being carved from the Carolina dirt.

The Dragway @ Lowe's Motor Speedway will be completed for the Sept.

11-14 NHRA Carolinas Nationals, the opening round of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series' six-race Countdown to the Championship.

Construction Fast Facts:

. Nearly 70 percent of the concrete pilings for the primary grandstand

have been poured. The main grandstand is on the driver's left side of the drag strip.

. A portion of the steel structure for the primary grandstand has been

installed. The lower two-thirds of this steel-and-aluminum grandstand was originally along the backstretch of North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham, N.C.

. Grading on the starting-line end of the drag strip has been

completed and crews are steadily working toward the far end.

. Three large temporary concrete pads that crews will use in

constructing the walls for the starting-line tower are in place and additional footings are being prepared.

. Excavation is underway on the first of two pedestrian tunnels that

will allow spectators to move from the professional pit area to the sportsman pit area.
